About this deal

The study involved interviewing women shipyard workers who had worked during WW2. The actual audio interviews were available to listen to, and it was fascinating to hear their tales. Dorothy whilst content with planning Angie’s wedding, does not want one of her own and is determined along with Gloria’s son Bobby to see the world once the world is available to be seen once again. Your books are hugely popular and there’s even talk about them being made into a TV series! What do you think readers love about your books? THE FIFTH NOVEL IN THE COMPELLING SHIPYARD GIRLS SERIES FROM SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR, NANCY REVELL. Nancy Revell sat down for a chat with My Weekly about her latest work. She talked about everything from inspiration to what she wants readers to feel when reading the novel.

Meanwhile Rosie is delighted to have her husband safely home but she begins to wonder – what lies ahead for her and her friends when the war is over? At this stage to go into the various characters and all the issues and problems they have would be fruitless given this is the last book and that everything they have been through and the hold a certain person has over them is reaching its endpoint. Needless to say, these women welders and both their friends and families have been through the mill since the outbreak of war but the end point is in sight. They just need to push through these final few months and hopefully emerge victorious on the other side. As world events progress at a rapid pace so too does the personal lives of each character that I have come to know and love. There are plenty of problems and situations, both good and bad, that need an outcome to be found be it positive or negative. The author gets straight down to action, and you get the sense she has a lot she wants to say and cover and gets on with it right from the outset. That’s not to say things felt rushed or brushed neatly under the carpet. Given the length of the series to do this now at this stage would seem futile and just such a let-down for readers who have been with the girls since the beginning. No, thankfully that didn’t happen at all and the pacing and revelations were all perfect and at times you have a smile on your face to see certain characters getting the comeuppance you have longed to see them receive. She's one of the main characters in the original series, but not the main one. I had left her, but I felt that there was more that could be explored with her character. I knew there was morethat we could do with her."The only one that isn’t showing any support is Helen, the manager of the shipyard. However looks can be deceiving, and under her cold exterior, Helen grapples with demons of her very own, which includes this one life altering choice that might lead to potential ruin. With life in the shipyards tougher than ever, will the strength of their friendship see them through to victory?

Brava, Nancy Revell for writing such a fantastic series and I cannot wait to see what you write next.Even though victory bells are ringing loud and clear for the Shipyard Girls there's an element of sadness because this is the final part of this epic series of eleven novels which have charted the progress of this stalwart group of women as they survived whatever the war threw at them, whilst at the same time keeping the home fires and the Sunderland shipyards flourishing. In this final novel we meet again with the women who have become such an intrinsic part of the story and hope with the end of the war they can each go on to find the happiness they deserve. Rosie's squad of welders must work gruelling hours in the yard as they prepare for the Allied invasion of Normandy. All the while Rosie herself waits anxiously for news of her husband Peter, who is carrying out dangerous work as an undercover operative in France.

But it is the heart in these books. Women from different parts of the town, different classes and circumstances coming together and forging friendships. Indeed this is the theme of the book, support and friendship. The decisions that each of the women take are wholly supported by the others. We see Hannah return to Europe to assist the British Red Cross and to search for her parents imprisoned in the concentration camps. We see Angie marry her Quentin, who when the question of differing classes comes up, is given support by the group of women in overcoming family disapproval. Secrets of the Shipyard Girls” is the third novel in the “Shipyard Girls” series and was released in the year 2017. While the war drags on, the shipyard girls find they are facing battles of their own. Of course there is some unfinished business with Helen and her family secrets which are still going to affect all the women she employs. Can she possibly keep it together to protect those she cares about. And will anyone ever care about her for who she is and not what she might bring to a relationship? And there is something odd about yard manager Helen's newest recruit Bel. But in resolving to uncover the truth, Helen might discover more than she bargained for... I think it’s a mix of reasons, but the overriding one which comes through time and time again is the love of the characters – Rosie, Polly, Gloria, Dorothy, Angie, Martha, and Hannah. I receive so many messages telling me that the women welders feel ‘like family’ and that they can’t wait to see what happens to them all in the next instalment. I also have demands that certain characters find love, or others end up taking a long jump off a short pier!During the day, Rosie (head welder) teaches her fledgling group of trainees their new trade, however at night she hides These women didn’t just inspire me to write this series, but they also inspire me as I go about my daily life. Angie is to be married to Quentin and with that the final escape from her family and the behaviours of her parents. Little does she know, she will end up with a ready made family as soon as she is married. I felt incredibly passionate about basing the series on these incredibly brave and hard-working women because I was astounded that next to nothing had been written about them. It was as though history had simply ignored them. There wasn’t even a single blue plaque giving these women even the slightest recognition for what they did. And yet they risked life and limb by working in the northeast shipyards.

Heroines women welders who know no fear, Three cheers for the shipyard girl's will live on always in my heart.Nancy spoke of her way of working, which tended to involve a thought that evolved into a fully formed story idea over time. Meanwhile welder Dorothy has a feeling that her beau Toby is planning to pop the question when he's next on leave. But it seems that her head is being turned by someone closer to home... Sunderland, 1942: Christmas is fast approaching, and with it comes a flurry of snow and surprises...
